ORC Sensitize Staff On Data Protection And Cybersecurity

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025, organized a day’s cybersecurity sensitization session for its staff as part of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Awareness Week activities.

The session aimed at improving the staff’s awareness on the importance of cybersecurity and the safeguarding of personal and organizational data.

It was held in a hybrid of in-person and virtual sessions, to enable staff in the zonal offices to also take part and benefit from the training.

Key personalities present at the training included the Deputy Registrar Benjamin Zigorsh-Nyakpenu, Heads of the various Directorates, and representatives from the Data Protection Commission and Cybersecurity Authority.

Ms. Pearl Gyekye, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Data Protection Commission, facilitated the session. Highlights of Ms. Gyekye’s session included, Practical tips on protecting sensitive information, Guidelines on safe internet usage and Data privacy.

A highly interactive session, the training afforded staff the opportunity to understand cybersecurity and data protection principles.

Mrs. Maame Samma Peprah the Registrar of Companies, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized the growing risks associated with cyber threats and the critical need for compliance with data protection regulations.

She reiterated the importance of the awareness week and its relevance to the protection of sensitive information, particularly, within the ORC.

Mr. Isaac Mensah, Senior Manager of the Computer Emergency Response Team of the Cybersecurity Authority took participants through the mandate of cybersecurity, common cybersecurity threats such as phishing and social engineering, best practices for securing both personal and corporate data.

Staff expressed appreciation for the training, emphasizing its relevance in today’s digital work environment.
